About the Event

Kingdom of Gold: Images of Ghana brings together past and present in a powerful exploration of culture, memory, and connection across the African diaspora. The exhibition emerged through a shared dialogue between photographer Ellen Kaplowitz and the Anson Street African Burial Ground Project and is rooted in a mutual commitment to understanding how art, history, and ancestry intersect.

Kaplowitz’s photographs, previously exhibited at the Tubman Museum and the Houston Museum of African American Culture, document the enstoolment of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, while also capturing moments of everyday life in Ghana with remarkable depth and care. Her work is visually striking and historically grounded, offering images that celebrate the continuity of African cultural traditions while acknowledging the enduring legacies of the transatlantic slave trade.

Presented in connection with the Anson Street African Burial Ground Project Reinterment Anniversary, this exhibition invites viewers to consider the lives of the Anson Street…
